Conversational Capacity
At the heart of almost every issue you face in your organization today is people’s inability or unwillingness to talk about difficult issues. I would argue that if you look at every issue you face, you can backtrack and find that the cause of the issue is a conversation that did not happen or did not happen well. For instance:
- – People did not speak up at project planning meeting, which led to risks not being surfaced.
- People felt unable to provide feedback about someone’s performance or behavior, which let that behavior continue.
- People dominated meetings, preventing others from sharing ideas and opinions.
We have a simple and powerful model to increase people’s ability and willingness to speak up when it matters most, and engage in open, honest, and candid dialogue. We call this the conversational capacity of an individual, team, or organization.
TIMING & FORMAT
6-hours in person | Three 2-hour virtual sessions
OVERVIEW & LEARNING OBJECTIVES
During the live session (either in-person or virtual) participants will explore:
- The need to minimize conversations versus the need to win conversations.
- Triggers and how to tame them.
- The Conversational Capacity mindset
- Candor Skills & Curiosity Skills
- Real-world situations and craft conversations
HOW DOES IT WORK
Each team member will gain access to the Blanchard Exchange Learner portal to conduct approximately 20-minutes of self-study prior to the session. After attending the 6-hour program, each participant will have access to the portal for one year for Reinforcement materials.
OUTCOMES
- Allow people to communicate better throughout the organization.
- Be able to engage in effective dialog no matter the topic.
- Be able to act fairly and constructively.
- Make smart decisions together.

Reinforcement materials are provided in the Blanchard Exchange Learner portal and include conversational capacity worksheet, trigger journal, at a glance booklet, action plan, and access to online tools, worksheets, and videos.
